Very, very good. My family goes there whenever we are in Bloomington. When my parents lived there for a while it was their favorite. The gluten free pancakes taste just like regular pancakes, just watch out because there may be cross contamination. The potatoes are amazing. Just home fries without gravy (but cheese!!!) are gluten free! They are great also! We had no wait, we just ate and got out😁 [their motto]. Despite having a slightly aggressive motto, the staff was amazing and very accommodating to the gluten free issues. Very helpful! Happy busy cafe-like environment. Definitely a place college kids go to for breakfast a lot!

Questions & Answers

Yes

The Village Deli's been a local Bloomington institution since 1980, when David Lockwood &Michael Paxton opened the tiny cafe (then on Kirkwood. Though they sold it to current owner Costello, most of the menu and recipes are unchanged. (Paxton’s Potatoes—a calorie-happy plate of home fries with sausage gravy, cheddar cheese, and chives—and Paxton’s Patty Melt, made with chicken and the Deli’s own “special sauce.”) The buttermilk pancakes, way bigger then your plate!! & homemade granola, sour-cream coffee cake, and salads are all made in-house from original Village Deli recipes. Jim & I have been eating there for 33yrs. Game days the noise level reaches a crescendo that blots out conversation but it's convivial & if u are IU alum u feel right at home.
